As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the faith for your child.  As you know, the sacraments are celebrated and lived in the parish.  Because of this, the preparation for the sacraments takes place in the parish - not the schools.  The Catholic schools support what takes place in the home and parish and are a place for children to learn about Jesus and develop a relationship with him.

Your child must complete FIRST RECONCILIATION (also called Confession or Penance)

BEFORE taking First Communion classes.

What are the requirements for FIRST COMMUNION classes?

  • First Reconciliation:  Your child must have already celebrated the sacrament of First Reconciliation (Penance or Confession).
  • Age:  Children must be a minimum age of 7 (grade 2).
  • Parental Participation is key.  At least one parent/guardian is required to be with their child at each class.
  • Baptism Certificate must be provided if your child was not  baptized at St. Michael Parish.
  • Regular Attendance at Sunday Mass. The celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholic Christians.  At Mass, we experience Christ in ways that we cannot experience him anywhere else:  in the Scripture readings, in our praying and singing, in the person of the priest, in the celebration of the Sacraments, and especially in the Eucharist.
